We Specialize In Autism Training For Law Enforcement

Protect Your Citizens And Officers With Autism Awareness Training
Autism is increasing in the United States…and so is your agency’s likelihood of a police encounter with a citizen affected by Autism.
Without training, you’re leaving it up to chance whether that contact is successful…or catastrophic for the citizen, the community and your officer.
The Solution:
Autism Armor trains law enforcement to recognize, communicate with, and safely engage individuals on the autism spectrum. Officers will learn real-world tools that improve outcomes and prevent tragic misunderstandings.
About The Instructor:
Autism Armor was created by Seth Coleman, a full-time police officer in the Las Vegas area.
Shortly after becoming a police officer, his son was diagnosed with autism.
Since then, Seth has dedicated himself to training law enforcement officers across the U.S. how to successfully manage encounters with citizens on the Autism Spectrum.

What’s In The Training:
- Recognizing Autism-Related Behaviors How to spot signs of autism during calls for service, traffic stops, or field encounters—especially when individuals may not disclose their condition.
- Effective Communication Strategies How to communicate clearly and calmly with individuals on the autism spectrum using simple language, visual cues, and tone control.
- De-Escalation Techniques Specific to Autism How to avoid common mistakes that escalate situations, and what techniques actually work to calm individuals experiencing sensory overload or emotional distress.
- Understanding Sensory Sensitivities How lights, sirens, loud commands, or physical contact can trigger fear or panic—and how to adjust your approach accordingly.
- Interpreting Unusual Behavior Without Judgment Why behaviors like avoiding eye contact, stimming, or lack of verbal response are not signs of defiance—and how to respond with professionalism.
- Scene Safety for Officers and Individuals with Autism How to secure a scene without causing trauma, and how to keep everyone safe when individuals exhibit unpredictable or erratic behavior.
- Legal and Ethical Obligations What the law requires when interacting with individuals with developmental disabilities—and how training reduces risk of liability.
- Engaging with Families and Caregivers How to work alongside parents, caregivers, or support staff to resolve incidents safely and respectfully.
- Building Community Trust Through Competence How skilled responses build trust with marginalized communities and improve long-term outcomes between police and the public.
- Real-World Scenario Practice and Case Study Review How to apply what you’ve learned to actual incidents involving autistic individuals—reviewing what went right, what went wrong, and why.
How Does The Training Work:
Training works best when delivered in 4-hour blocks. This allows for day shift, swings/mids, and graveyard officers to attend in a day. Depending on your agency size, we can work out a multiple day block of training, or space the training over several weeks.
